Public Safety Officers will work a Maximum of 40 hours per week, work schedules and hours will vary and include shift work and weekends but may be adjusted around college schedules and other demands. Public Safety Officers are non-sworn uniformed members of the MDC Police. Public Safety Officers will be assigned to traffic duties, ticket booth duties, boathouse duties, vehicle patrols, bike patrols, foot patrols and screening of persons and their vehicles.
Public Safety officers will assist members of the MDC Police in accomplishing work objectives to include: Administrative duties, performing ticket booth duties, Assisting Traffic Safety, Vehicle Inspections, Personal Property inspections, Crime prevention, assisting with crowd control and traffic control.
PSO's will receive instructions and training appropriate to the duties anticipated. The training will consist of one on one training as well as some classroom training.
These positions require a driver’s license, being in good physical shape to ride bicycle around all MDC park like properties. Candidates must be able to be flexible and work weekends. This is an outside job. We are looking for enthusiastic people with the future ambition to be in law enforcement or security.
PSO’s must be flexible to change working from one location to the next location depending on weather, scheduling and demands. The different locations are Barkhamsted, Avon and Farmington. All PSO’s will be trained to work at all locations. If asked to transfer from one location to the next during the same shift, mileage may be reimbursed depending on the situation.
